Award-winning documentary filmmaking — now part of how we tell your story.

Some stories need more than a website and a business card. They need a camera, a room, and someone who knows how to listen.

Laura Friedmann is a Colombian-born, Toronto-based producer, director, and creator whose work lives at the intersection of identity, healing, and social change. As co-founder of Wrapped Productions, she’s built an award-winning studio whose films have appeared on CBC Gem, Prime Video, Tubi, YesTV, and global platforms. Her company’s portfolio spans feature documentaries, digital shorts, television, and web series — all anchored in stories about transformation, human rights, gender equality, and the experiences of diaspora communities.

Laura’s credentials are serious. She’s a fellow of Hot Docs Deal Maker, the Whistler Film Festival Doc Lab, and the Netflix/Banff Diversity of Voices program. She was selected for the Canadian Academy Executive Residency Program and the BANFF Spark Accelerator for Women. Her co-founder Kyle Schmalenberg directed “Glimpses into the Spirit of Gender Equality” in collaboration with the United Nations, which premiered at the Commission on the Status of Women and won four festival awards including two for best documentary.

Their current slate includes “The Painting,” a feature documentary exploring identity and healing that was selected for Hot Docs Dealmaker 2022 — one of the documentary world’s most competitive pitch forums.

That’s the capability Laura brings to Partners in Design. When a healthcare organization needs to tell its story on video — whether that’s a patient testimonial campaign, a recruitment film, a brand documentary, or a thirty-second spot — we don’t hand it to a generic videographer. We bring in a filmmaker whose entire career has been about making people feel seen, heard, and understood on camera. That’s a different thing entirely.
